Min Min is 13 years old and originally from a zoo in NSW. During his time there, he had a fight with another owl and lost his right eye. Despite this apparent handicap, Min Min can fly perfectly well and has adapted to having only one eye. He was the star of the show at the Buninyong Smart Living Expo in February 2015, despite being out during the day. Watch him demonstrate the use of his tail and wings in flight on our Video page. Unfortunately, as the sight in his other eye has now declined, he has lost acuity for landing accurately and is now in retirement. We have built him a new enclosure in which he can find his way around more easily and safely.
Barn Owls are a truly cosmopolitan species being found on almost every continent. Because of its wide distribution, the Barn Owl is one of the best known owls in the world. They are active hunters searching on the wing for their prey. When hunting, they often fly close to the ground making them vulnerable to motor vehicle impact in the vicinity of roads.
