Paolo, so named after our resident tireless website developer and graphic designer (Paolo Tami), was purchased from Broadwings Raptor Training and Conservation Centre in Queensland. Paolo was born in 2015 and was introduced to the Sanctuary in 2017 with the hope that he would be a mate for Cleo, our female peregrine. Cleo thought otherwise and he is being trained to be one of our display birds. In case you were wondering, a tiercel is another name for a male Peregrine.
Tiercels can be amazing birds to see in flight as they are one third smaller than a female Peregrine and more agile in the air. We look forward to see Paolo power through the crowd during one of his flights.
